INTERVIEW

Ms. Ura, known for her vivid, pop-like bleach-on hair coloring style that produces truly unique color results, has collaborated with Nakano to create a new coloring agent [Acrylic Color]! It is part of the accent color range in the [caradeco] series lineup, which offers an abundance of color shades. Surprisingly, this is the first time that Ms. Ura has been involved in the development of a coloring agent, so we asked her to tell us more about the experience.

Sayaka Ura

Born on September 11th, 1979 in Nagasaki Prefecture. Graduated from Nagasaki Prefectural Beauty College. Producing color designs that reflect her unique view of the world, she has many fans both inside and outside the industry. Her book "How to Make Cute Bangs" (published by Kosha) is available.

Acrylic color shades are
Sayaka Ura’s
most sought
after colors at the moment

Ura: The most important thing is clear and vivid coloring, with results like acrylic paint or plastic. Basic colors can be expressed in a variety of ways, but I wanted to achieve this with alkaline color. When using basic color agent, it often comes into contact with the scalp, so it requires skill to paint from the root, and it is also expensive. In addition, since yellow tones often result when applying it to bleached hair, it is necessary to apply a basic color only after making a base first with an alkaline color. However, this is unnecessary with [Acrylic Color], and the application becomes easier and faster. This makes it especially easier for hairdressers to recommend.

- There is no other product that offers this artificial texture and color, right?

Ura: I didn’t want to do this by half measure, I was determined to do it until I was satisfied. In particular, "acrylic lemon" was very difficult, and I requested samples to be adjusted and repeated so many times. I knew exactly what I wanted to achieve and [Acrylic Color] is the result.

- The color development is fully demonstrated in these two styles.

Ura: Vivid colors and pale tones are both expressed freely. I can’t get enough of designs that play with lines as well as designs that show off surfaces.

- Is there a high demand for such vivid colors?

Ura: Bleach-on colors have become popular, and I feel that this has increased especially in the last few years. Japanese people have black hair, so they have a large amplitude in relation to hair color, and can transform into any character they want. Even if it is not an aggressive color design, there is a wide range of possibilities for on-color highlights, from inner coloring to accenting natural styles in adults. It might look like a wacky color range at first glance, but I think it can be used really effectively for various designs.

- How do you recommend it is used?

Ura: If you use it as a single color, you can enjoy vivid coloring like this short style. For results like the other bob style, I would recommend mixing in "Clear" to produce a pale color. Because it is an alkaline color, the color penetrates the internal section of the hair even for pale shades, and the fading is beautiful too. When you want to make dull shades, mix in caradeco’s "Dull (D/m)". Being easy to mix is also a strong point of alkaline color. For example, when the base hair color is yellow, mixing purple in with pink and adjusting as necessary is easy, so I often mix different Acrylic Colors. Also, I recommend bleaching hair on a different day to coloring for better color fixing.

- What color do you especially recommend?

Ura: All of them are good, but blue in particular is experiencing a rush of popularity. The quality of blue is excellent, and it produces a strong color even without bleaching. Just like painting a picture with acrylic paint, let's enjoy hair color more with [Acrylic Color]!

Style 1
Enjoy the movement of lines
with a vivid color mix

A vivid color mix that blends straight lines and curves to enhance the asymmetry-designed cut. Blue and green form the base color, and warm colors are used as accents. Enjoy the effect created through movement by detailed hair bundles of different shades.

Excluding 1cm at the tips as well as the roots, bleach twice to level 15. Apply two slices of lemon from the bottom, followed by alternating panels of blue, and green mixed with lemon to produce a yellowish green. Apply pink and purple alternately by taking panels that follow the shape of the head. Pinch hair and apply blue around the hair whorl, thinking about the position the hair will fall.

Style 2
Show off the beauty of the hair surface with a pale block color

The base cut is a one-length bob with wide bangs. Divide colors precisely in each section to highlight the beauty of the cut line, creating an artificial texture that looks just like a plastic toy. The pale tone color over the entire head gives a gentle impression.

Bleach the entire hair twice to level 15. Section bangs, and temples to back of the ear, then apply color according to the recipe. Mix blue (which produces a relatively strong color when used as is) with a large percentage of Clear, and purple (prone to pale color development) with a reduced percentage of Clear.
